Our Philosophy

Welcome from the External Focus team at Watermark! Our goal is to mobilize people to share the gospel and demonstrate God’s love by serving others in our city and around the world.

At Watermark, we believe that we’re all “on mission,” all the time. You might say that life is a long-term mission trip. So every day and every appointment is a short-term mission opportunity. Since the highest commandments are to love God and love and serve others, it’s our job to share the love of Christ with people we see every day – whether we’re in North Texas or halfway across the globe.

  • We want to work through, empower, and support local churches/ministries.
  • We maintain a focus on developing people and restoring systems – not just on relief.
  • The Good News should accompany our “good works.”
  • Through our service activities, we want to disciple both our people and those we serve.

Poverty is more than just a lack of material resources… it is the result of relationships that do not work.  Our desire is to free people to be all that God desires them to be by living in right relationship with God, with self, with others, and with the rest of creation. Matthew 22:34-40

Transformation happens in the context of community and relationships.  We believe that God is honored and people are loved best when we engage them, learn their names and their stories, walk with them, share the hope of Christ, and love them as Christ loves the church. Proverbs 27:17

God cares about justice. We want to be the Church by responding to injustice wherever we see it and promoting justice locally, nationally, and internationally. In this, we realize that we need to restore broken people and broken systems, which in many cases lead to injustice. Micah 6:8

The family is the foundation of community. Scripture teaches that we should preserve families and equip them. Therefore, we want to protect the core by building up and strengthening families spiritually and physically. Deuteronomy 6:1-9
